IBM Lotus Foundations
Lotus Foundations Start was launched in 2008 as an alternative to the Microsoft SBS 2008 solution. It has a lower cost of ownership and provides all of the functionality that you would expect from a Microsoft solution. If you are looking for a cost effective small business server to increase security, allow remote access and perform backup's easily then this solution is for you. Based on Linux, Lotus Foundations Start provides an easy to use system that can be managed easily from anywhere.
Microsoft Small Business Server
Microsoft Small Business Server is one of the most popular business servers is ideal for businesses under 75 employees. SBS is based upon a series of technologies that Microsoft offers and is designed for the small business to take advantage of these technologies without having to spend a large amount of money to obtain the technologies individual. Included in SBS Standard Edition:
- Windows Server 2008 which includes security and network management features
- Exchange Server for email & collaboration services
- Windows SharePoint for sharing documents, fax management and more
- Windows Server Update Services
- Forefront Security for Exchange Server
- Integration with Office Live Small Business
Also available is the Premium edition, which in the 2008 release of SBS requires an additional server in addition to the base SBS server. In the premium edition you are treated to the inclusion of SQL Server 2008 for Small Business. SQL Server is a powerful database management tool which can be used for either custom applications, thid party applications or even customer relationship management tools such as Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
