At last the awards dinner arrived! Thank you to Calgary’s Chamber of Commerce for hosting such a great event!  A packed house!  For anyone who is a small business entrepreneur, hearing Milaine Theriault speak about the similarities between the training and discipline required to become an Olympic athlete and that of building a successful business sure hit home. 

We sat with Jeff Bradshaw and the team from Zoom Communications (a nominee for RBC’s Small Business of the Year Award) and enjoyed the roast beef dinner, wine and conversation as we all waited with angst for the winners to be announced.  Watching the company video clips that City TV produced (thanks Vasco and Cynthia!) of each of the finalists reminded us that we were among some highly talented people.  Dr. Leslie Roberts, Professor-turned-entrepreneur was an engaging and entertaining speaker who really hit home with the crowd with her confession that running a small business was “easier to teach than it is to do”…..and then the announcement…..and the 2009 winner for Calgary’s Entrepreneur of the Year is…. Shannon Lenstra and Fran Morisset at Kon-strux Development Inc!
